PACE can Replace Nursing Home Care

October 20, 2013 by Stephen Unsworth

There are several alternatives to living in a nursing home that may be worth exploring. One of those is PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly). Unsworth LaPlante, PLLC in Vermont is committed to providing Elder Law advice, and we want you to know about this program.

This Medicare and Medicaid program allows people to live in the community while still meeting their health needs, rather than in a nursing home or other facility.

Coordinated Care

A team of health care professionals work with you and your family for coordinated care. They work for a limited number of people, and provide knowledgeable service to you as an individual. You may need to use PACE-preferred doctors under the program.

Care and services covered by Medicare and Medicaid are also covered by PACE if authorized. Sometimes PACE will pick up services and care that Medicare and Medicaid doesn’t cover. You can receive care and services in your home, your community, and the PACE center.

Many specialists and other community providers are contracted with PACE, and staff at the care center provides most of the care. You must be age 55 or more, live in a PACE organization service area, need a level of care equivalent to a nursing home, and be able to safely live with PACE’s help in your community.
