We are proud to share the news with our clients that our very own Stephen A. Unsworth has been chosen for the 2013 Super Lawyers award. This award places him in the top 5 percent of attorneys throughout New England. Stephen consistently raises the bar for estate planning lawyers around the country and more importantly, delivers to his clients the best representation found in the industry. Of course, those of us who work with Stephen on a daily basis know first-hand the determination that drives that commitment.
Stephen’s focus is in the estate planning sector. In the coming years, it’s expected this area of the law will evolve in the face of new healthcare requirements and the always changing tax codes. With those uncertainties continuing to unfold and fears of what they will ultimately mean for senior citizens and those preparing to retire, Stephen’s clients know they’re in good hands, regardless of those factors. With more than 3 decades of experience, Stephen knows full well the intricacies associated with estate planning as a whole. The laws can change quickly and those who aren’t current could compromise the strength of their entire estate plan. Stephen’s priority is to ensure it never happens. His clients would agree.
Stephen is an active member of the Vermont Bar Association, Chittenden County Bar Association, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys as well as the Vermont Bar Association’s Elder Law and Probate & Trust Sections.
In the past, Steven has served on the Board of Governors of the AAEPA, as Chairman of the Vermont Bar Association Continuing Education Committee as well as President of the Chittenden County Bar Association. Further, his law firm, Unsworth Law, is the only member of the Vermont American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA).
Recognizing the importance of ensuring a strong legal foundation in the U.S., Stephen presents at various continuing legal education seminars for attorneys and paralegals and has also taught business law at the University of Vermont and Champlain College. It’s something he does with great pride and the same dedication that’s evident in every client relationship.
He’s a graduate with distinction from the University of Maine and earned his Juris Doctorate from Western New England College School of Law in Massachusetts.
His days away from the law firm are spent giving back to the community. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and is active in his church and faith, which he shares with his wife and three children. When there’s time, he most likely will be found on the water as he’s an avid sailor.
So what’s next for Stephen and Unsworth Law? Whatever it is, we’re sure the confident leadership skills and ethical business practices can only mean a bright future for the firm as a whole.
